
PC-based Project 25 base station
Most local police agencies in New Hampshire have either no wireless data capability or
utilize commercial cellular data. While cellular data is an effective solution, the recurring
costs are high and cellular data service is largely limited to densely populated areas of the
state.
CATLab is developing an affordable system (under $10,000) to offer base station support
for local police that will provide APCO Project 25 compliant wireless data services. The
key to providing this support is that the Motorola Astro mobile radios that are currently
used in the cruisers throughout New Hampshire are not going to require any modification
since they already support APCO Project 25 compliant mixed voice and data operation.
Instead, the solution will involve a modification to the single base station radio system at
